MSD of Mt .Vernon’s Director of Information Systems earns top statewide tech leadership honor

Bill Stein, Director of Information Systems for MSD of Mt. Vernon, is a nationally respected K–12 technology leader with more than 30 years of experience advancing innovation, cybersecurity, and digital learning in education. A Certified Educational Technology Leader (CETL), Bill is widely recognized for his leadership in building collaborative, service-focused technology teams that prioritize classroom support and student success. He is the creator of CyberShorts.org, an engaging cybersecurity storytelling platform designed to make complex cyber threats accessible and relatable for educators and students alike. Bill is also a former Chair of the Indiana CTO Council and continues to support technology leaders across the state through mentorship, professional development, and statewide cybersecurity initiatives. His passion for leadership, innovation, and community building has made a lasting impact on Indiana education—and a deserving recipient of the 2026 Indiana CTO of the Year Award.

This prestigious award honors outstanding leadership, innovation, and dedication in the field of K-12 educational technology across the state of Indiana.
This is your opportunity to recognize a technology leader who has made a significant impact on teaching and learning through the effective use of technology in education.
About the Award
The Indiana CTO of the Year Award will be presented to a Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Chief Information Officer (CIO), Technology Director, or Technology Coordinator currently serving in an Indiana school or school corporation. The recipient will exemplify visionary leadership, strategic planning, and a commitment to equity, innovation, and excellence in educational technology.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be currently employed as a CTO, CIO, Technology Director, Technology Coordinator, or similar role in an Indiana school or district
- Must have at least three years of experience in their current role
- Must be nominated by a Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or School Director
- Preference will be given to candidates:
- From schools/school corporations with an active CoSN Institutional Membership
- Who hold the Certified Education Technology Leader (CETL) credential
